Generosity inspired by a lifetime of joy
When you ask Marion Pollock about being a grandparent, her emotions rise quickly to the surface. “We just love children, but through the years we’ve seen so many who have such serious medical problems and who are very ill,” she says. “Because Geisinger brings so many advantages to us and the children in the area, we wanted to help. I’m happy to support them.”
Her giving spirit, inspired by a thankfulness for averting such tragedies in her life with her own children and grandchildren, has long led this business woman and owner of the fine-dining “Top of the 80’s” restaurant in Hazleton, to support the Children’s Miracle Network at Geisinger’s Janet Weis Children’s Hospital. Her first gift was made over two decades ago, upon hearing of the birth of her fourth, healthy grandchild.
“We’d had three beautiful, perfect grandchildren already, and we got the call from the delivery room that a fourth was born,” she said of herself and late husband, Ken. Although the event she was recalling happened long ago, the thrill she felt at the time still infuses the memory. “The news was just terrific. He was great, just perfect, too!”
Geisinger’s Children’s Miracle Network annual broadcast was underway at the time, so the Pollocks celebrated their growing family by making the first of many significant donations to Children’s Miracle Network. Today, her generosity of spirit and kindness of heart help ensure that advanced medical care reaches children across central and northeast Pennsylvania.
