Paul & Elizabeth Wasserott
Paul and Elizabeth Wasserott of Wilkes-Barre have supported local charities and community organizations for decades – they believe that with success comes civic responsibility. But Paul’s “insider” experience with the physicians, nurses, and staff at Geisinger led them to make an extraordinary lifetime $1.3 million gift to the hospital and a pledge to fund the second phase of the Richard & Marion Pearsall Heart Hospital at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
“I was born and raised in the medical supply business,” explains Paul, whose father started Wasserott, Ltd., in 1924. “There’s no doubt in my mind that Geisinger is head and shoulders above most hospitals. I place them in the same category as the top hospitals in the country.”
Paul and Elizabeth say their gifts to Geisinger are rooted in a desire to share their success with their Pennsylvania neighbors. Since selling the business in 2002, the Wasserotts spend time at homes in Pennsylvania, Florida, and Montana. But they will always be loyal patients of Geisinger.
“Our hope is that our gifts can help patients with heart disease and other illnesses rebuild their lives,” says Paul. “We look forward to many years to come in our relationship with the health system and our Geisinger physicians."
