Kathy's story: tuition assistance equals continuing education
My days are very busy. I’m a full-time nurse at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV) and a part-time college student. In addition to this, I enjoy teaching classes and preparing the next generation of nursing students.
Each day I try to raise the bar for myself, my patients, and my students. My role model is my 85-year-old mother, who rose to become director of nursing after many years of caring for her patients. She instilled in me the importance of education as part of my career development.
I am in the process of obtaining my Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree – but such a goal would not be possible without tuition assistance from Geisinger’s Alice E. Steele Nursing Education Endowment. Thanks to this support, I am pursuing my MSN and learning new skills that will directly impact my job as clinical coordinator, and more importantly, the level of care I can provide my patients.
By advancing my education, I’m able to stay on top of the latest trends in nursing and patient care, as well as continue teaching new nursing students.
At age 54, I am still learning. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
