Cindy's story: excellent care means more time with family
I had an exciting trip planned with my daughter, Jennie, for the next day. We were headed to New York City to be in the audience of the Martha Stewart show. As I was looking forward to a fun day, I began to feel incredibly ill. My arm was in such pain, it felt like a truck was parked on it. I was having a major heart attack, and through the pain, all I could think of was my family.
Jennie is a nurse and she told me I had to call 911. When the ambulance took me to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV), the doctors found two blockages in my arteries. I desperately needed a stent to keep my blood flowing. In a stroke of luck, some members of the team helping me were former co-workers of Jennie’s. I knew I was in excellent hands at Geisinger.
During my stay at GWV, everyone—from my doctors, my nurses, the housekeepers, everyone on every shift—was phenomenal. They did an excellent job caring for me, but my job was just beginning. Five weeks of cardiac rehab followed my heart attack.
Because of the care I received at Geisinger, I am feeling better than I have in years and eager to spend precious time with my children and grandsons. And we planned an even bigger trip: a week in Disney World for the whole family!
