Autism and Developmental Medicine Institute
Families everywhere are desperately seeking accurate diagnoses, appropriate care, and therapeutic programs for their children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and developmental disabilities, but there is a shortage of specially trained providers. The result is a tremendous backlog of children across the country awaiting diagnosis, some waiting up to two or even three years to see a physician who specializes in developmental medicine.
Partnering with Bucknell University, Geisinger’s vision is to develop the Autism and Developmental Medicine Institute as a world-class Center of Excellence dedicated to clinical care, research, and education that will improve and expedite the diagnosis, treatment, and care of children with autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities. The nucleus of the network will be the Geisinger-Bucknell Center in Lewisburg, PA.
Developmental medicine redefined
The current situation is a national crisis for those youngsters who receive a late or inaccurate diagnosis, causing delayed intervention in a critical stage of their development. With your support we can provide early intervention, diagnosis, and expert care that enables these children and their families to enjoy optimum health and quality of life. Help us to:
- Establish a network of regional centers that will make timely, quality care accessible to children and their families.
- Redefine a national model of care: an integrated, comprehensive program that removes traditional barriers to early intervention and accurate diagnosis and treatment.
- Leverage innovative technology and research to provide insights into treatment protocols and optimum outcomes.
- Study neurodevelopmental processes of brain development, abnormal development associated with ASD, and also cancers that affect the brain and nervous system.
