Geisinger has an unwavering commitment to training the next generation of physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
At Geisinger, scholars receive real-life experience working in our integrated health service organization, hospitals and clinics, as well as training in how to apply our advanced electronic health record, technology, and innovative solutions directly to patient care. Geisinger’s patient-centered, multi-disciplinary model that focuses on evidence-based decision making helps prepare students for a new era in healthcare.
Geisinger facilitates the translation of students’ individual academic skills and interests into our culture. Listening to patients and families, understanding transitions of care, and discovering that patients and experienced caregivers have much to teach are hallmarks of Geisinger’s curriculum. In turn, this contributes to the transformation of dedicated and compassionate students into sophisticated and experienced healthcare professionals.
Last year, approximately 350 residents and fellows from many top institutions trained at Geisinger Medical Center and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Geisinger is a clinical campus for Temple University School of Medicine and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. In addition to training physicians, Geisinger recognizes the importance of educating nursing students and providing continuing education for nursing professionals – all of whom benefit from their time at one of the nation’s highly lauded Magnet programs. The health system is committed to offering allied health programs and educational opportunities for a wide range of healthcare professionals.
