Practical training in the rural healthcare experience
Healthcare demands are on the rise in our region, yet the number of qualified, available nurses to help meet this need is low.
Enrollment in nursing schools is dropping. Open positions can’t be filled fast enough. And some are leaving nursing altogether because of burnout and stress as they work long hours to fill the gaps.
Because a strong nursing workforce is key to a healthier Northeast Pennsylvania, we’re working with local nursing schools to offer hands-on, real-world training in rural medical care, while serving the healthcare needs of thousands of people in our community.
“Geisinger and Bloomsburg University share a strong commitment to nursing education… Our expanded partnership will give student nurses the opportunity to gain advanced clinical experience alongside Geisinger’s skilled nurses, physicians and health care professionals.”

Geisinger is there
Increasing healthcare access through education
Our partnership with Bloomsburg University give student nurses hands-on, practical learning through advanced clinical experience from Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital (G-BH) skilled nurses, physicians and healthcare professionals.
Why? Because sharing our medical expertise with the university’s Department of Nursing, Nursing Advisory Board and Student Health Advisory Board helps further our mission to provide a quick, effective response to community healthcare needs.

Bloomsburg Student Health Advisory Board
With all the things young adults have to worry about in college—books, tuition, studying, getting to class on time—health can sometimes take a back seat. So we make regular visits to Bloomsburg’s student orientation days to give health tips to students and parents, including emergency cards with helpful information about G-BH services
Students are encouraged to fill out the card, which includes contact and insurance information.
Plus, as a member of the Student Health Advisory Board, we advise the school on Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) policy and procedures, to ensure students and their families are up-to-date on their healthcare privacy rights.
