A new pediatric urgent care center opened recently at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, and more than $70,000 of equipment inside was purchased through Children's Miracle Network at Geisinger funds.
The center, the only one of its type in the Wyoming Valley, received items such as IV pumps, an EKG machine setup, TVs for observation beds and urgent care supplies through Children's Miracle Network.
The urgent care center is designed to complement pediatric and primary physician care by providing services when doctors’ offices typically are closed or cannot see children quickly. Children who have non-emergent medical needs can been seen at the urgent care center rather than waiting to be seen in an emergency room.
The center offers same-day appointments for conditions including: allergic reactions, asthma (mild to moderate wheezing), simple broken bones, burns (minor), cuts (minor), dehydration, diarrhea, ear aches and infections, fever, rashes and bumps, sprains, sore throats and vomiting.
