Starting at the Beginning
Our fertility specialists initially meet with you to discuss your needs and history. We want to make sure you feel comfortable. After all, this is a private, personal matter that is important to you on many levels. We’re here to listen first.
Before any fertility treatment, our specialists may recommend any of several diagnostic tests for both the female or male partner. For example, semen analysis (.pdf) is one of the simplest tests to take. Geisinger’s advanced reproductive technologists perform a number of highly sophisticated studies on these samples. Infertility causes may be revealed through these tests early on.
Among the tests for women is laparoscopy, a minimally invasive surgical procedure that allows specialists to study the outside of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and pelvic cavity. Problems like benign fibroid cysts can interfere with the production of eggs to be fertilized.
What’s most important to remember is that Geisinger has the most advanced Andrology Lab (for the scientific collection, preservation, study and diagnosis of semen for assisted reproduction technologies). Working with our obstetric and gynecological team, the Andrology specialists help determine the best course of fertility treatment (link to treatment page).
