In the newborn nursery, Angela performs a hearing screening on a newborn. All babies are given a hearing test before discharge. For security purposes, all babies are photographed. Geisinger also has an i-Nursery, which is provided at no charge. Internet pictures are taken just before discharge. |

A new dad takes a coffee break in the family pantry. This room is where coaches can get ice chips and popcicles for moms, and coaches can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. |

At the nurses' station, one of our desk clerks, Judy, prepares all the paperwork for admission, birth certificates and discharges. Jen watches the central monitoring system where nurses can follow the ongoing labor record when not in the room. The central system also allows physicians to see the labor record from their provider room. |
Our patients say
-"I came to Geisinger not knowing what to expect. The building was so big, what I found was friendly, wonderful staff, a beautiful room, and I felt safe and well taken care of the entire time!"
-"I expect my baby to be born at our local hospital, but when my water broke at 29 weeks, I was sent by ambulance to Geisinger. They were able to keep my pregnancy going another three weeks, and at 32 weeks, we had a baby girl who needed to be in the NICU only three weeks. Everyone was professional, honest, and caring. I wouldn't want to have a baby anywhere else, regardless of the distance!"
-"I met a lot of people the first four hours I was admitted - doctors, residents, nurses - everyone introduced themselves, they were caring, personal, and I felt like the most important person at all times. We had specific requests for the birth process, and each was honored with no problem - except one thing that we decided against at the last minute, and everyone was flexible and listened to us!"
-"My husband could not believe how the staff works well together, and got him much more involved in the birth - no one pushed him, but with their gentle encouragement, it gave him the courage to even cut the cord - and now he brags about it to everyone!"
