Spiritual care you can count on

Our caring and compassionate chaplains are here to help you and your family find strength during your stay in the hospital.

Since 1976, Geisinger has had professional spiritual care givers on-site to assist patients and families. Our chaplains provide compassionate support and crisis counseling in the middle of stressful situations. They are prepared to meet any requests for religious resources, and to help families and patients in need of moral support.

If you would like to speak with a spiritual leader from your religion, our chaplains have a list of community spiritual leaders who can meet your needs.

Spiritual services available at Geisinger include:

  • Supportive listening
  • Religious/faith resources, i.e. prayer, scripture, literature
  • Crisis counseling
  • Grief support
  • Catholic and Protestant sacraments
  • Meditation rooms and chapels
  • PRAYERnet

At Geisinger, we are committed to caring for the whole person, not just the physical illness. We recognize the role spirituality and religion play in patients' lives; our chaplains help patients and families use their spiritual beliefs as resources for healing.

Available 24/7

Because a patient's request to have spiritual guidance may arise any time of day or night, at least one chaplain is on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each chaplain is qualified to:

  • Listen and provide spiritual support.
  • Connect patients with spiritual resources from their own faith tradition.
  • Pray with patients and loved ones.
  • Perform Catholic and Protestant sacraments. Our chaplains also confer with other religious leaders. If you practice a different religion and prefer to speak with a representative from your own faith, our chaplains can reach out to the network of community faith leaders and request services for you.

Sacred spaces

Sometimes it helps to go somewhere quiet to reflect on what is happening with an ill family member or in the midst of your own illness. Many of our campuses have meditation rooms or chapels where you can go to find a quiet place to draw strength from your faith. Below is a list of chapels and meditation rooms throughout Geisinger.

Geisinger Medical Center
The Rea Interfaith Chapel, located near the B elevators, offers a peaceful place of solitude where you can quietly connect with your faith. A prayer book is available in the chapel in which you can leave a prayer request for the chaplains.

The Janet Weis Meditation Room, located on the third floor of the Janet Weis Children's Hospital, is a place where parents, siblings and other family members can seek spiritual comfort.

Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital
The Emily Rosini Spiritual Center is located in the main lobby of the hospital on the left after you go through the second set of doors. It is a quiet, peaceful place where one can go to find respite from the burdens of the day. The Emily Rosini Spiritual Center is open 24 hours a day.
