From the improvement of healthcare delivery, to clinical trials of investigational products (drugs and devices) and medical procedures, to basic science, our investigators are advancing medical care every day. But we can't do it without you.

Research Studies

Geisinger research offers access to many different types of studies for all kinds of individuals - whether you are healthy or have a current medical condition. By getting involved, you help us study the causes of disease, disease prevention and new treatments. Research can make a difference and your participation is critical to improving healthcare for everyone.

Clinical trials are research studies designed to find better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases. Depending on your condition and general health, your doctor may offer you a clinical trial as a treatment option. You can talk with your clinical care team to determine which studies are most appropriate for you and discuss exactly what is involved.

To see current available studies, click here. If you are enrolled with MyGeisinger you can also find information about clinical studies on the Advancing Healthcare tab.

Any individual can participate in these projects. The projects are completely confidential and include:

  • Geisinger MyCode® Community Health Initiative. Samples of genetic material from patients are sequenced and the data combined with each participant's medical record to allow Geisinger researchers and research partners to investigate new approaches to prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chronic disease.
  • The Family History Project. Family history is known to be a risk factor for many common, chronic conditions such as coronary artery disease, hypertension, stroke, obesity and diabetes. This project offers you the opportunity to collect your family health history, which may help you discover inherited high-risk factors and plan preventive action and care.

There are other research studies that will contact you by letter, telephone or email and ask you to participate. These studies will provide you with a phone number for you to call to get more information about the study.

For all types of research studies you can ask as many questions as you need. If for any reason you decide you no longer want to participate, you can stop whenever you want - this will not affect the care you or your family receive at Geisinger.

Geisinger is committed to protecting the rights and welfare of research participants and promoting excellence in all aspects of research. Click here to learn more about Geisinger's Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) and what it means to volunteer as a research participant.

Geisinger and Research

Research has been a fundamental and critical part of Geisinger's mission and vision since its founding almost 100 years ago. Dr. Harold Foss, the first leader of the George F. Geisinger Memorial Hospital, believed that research would lead to better care for patients. Today, Geisinger's commitment to research is increasingly tied to improving patient outcomes and focused on building a comprehensive, personalized healthcare program. Geisinger encourages everyone to participate in research.

"Make my hospital right, make it the best."
