Impressed with Geisinger
Northeast Pennsylvania businessman Robert Tambur is impressed with Geisinger Health System—from the quality of the healthcare provided to the foresight and effectiveness of the organization’s leadership.
That, along with over three decades of experience with Geisinger providing care to family and friends, is why he agreed to serve on the health system’s Board of Directors—and why he and his wife, Virginia, support Geisinger philanthropically.
The Tamburs’ connection to Geisinger goes back to Dr. Leonard Bush, the organization’s second chief executive officer. Virginia’s grandfather was a friend of Dr. Bush, so it was natural that when Robert and Virginia had a family, they would turn to Geisinger. Both of their children, Robert and Liza, were born at Geisinger Medical Center, and their first grandchild, Samuel, was born at Geisinger Wyoming Valley.
“We have always had a high regard for Geisinger, and that opinion has grown even further now that I have had the chance to serve on the Board of Directors for the past three years and become involved with making Geisinger’s vision for the future a reality,” Robert explains.
Robert and Virginia have chosen to make a significant gift toward a new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Geisinger Wyoming Valley.
“There is a great need for a NICU in the Wilkes-Barre and surrounding area,” he says. “Ginny and I are thankful that we can help provide such a resource for families in need.”
Although his many business interests keep him busy, Robert is pleased to commit the time and energy to take an active role on the Geisinger Board of Directors.
“This is a well-run organization that is doing great things for patients,” he says. “I am happy to help however I can.”
