GWV Neurosurgical Education Fund

lacroix“When I first came to this area in 2009, there was limited access to neurological care. For a service area of more than 3 million people, I had to wonder – how is this community being cared for? Geisinger was ready to develop a neuroscience program to meet the needs of the patients in our region.

In the four years that I’ve been at Geisinger, the neuroscience program has grown tremendously. We now count on sixteen neurosurgeons, most sub-specialized and fellowship trained, throughout the health system. In my first year at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV), 250 patients were treated with surgery. As of early May, we’ve already treated more than 1,400 patients in 2013.
With my pledge to The Centennial Campaign, I created the GWV Neurosurgical Education Fund. We are bringing the best people to our team.

These providers can make a difference in many ways: first and foremost, by being outstanding neurosurgeons for their patients as well as those who contribute to the practice of neurosurgery in general. By investing in their education, research endeavor and national presence, we can immediately help the people we are treating, broadening their access to cutting-edge care. And, our community as a whole benefits when we offer our patients the best care.

I’ve seen the determination and the spirit that exist here at Geisinger to make things better for our community. Investing and believing in an organization that wants to do good, and is doing good, is an easy decision.”
