Marworth, Geisinger Health System’s Alcohol and Chemical Dependency Treatment Center, has begun construction of a new $1.8 million counseling wing at its campus in Waverly.

Marworth increased from 77 to 91 beds last year, magnifying its need for additional space. “Demand for Marworth’s services has grown significantly, along with an increased need for individual and group counseling,” stated James Dougherty, Vice President at Marworth.  “The new wing will provide 9,000 square feet of appropriate space to meet this need and enable our counselors to continue providing high quality services.”

As we break ground for the new counseling wing at Marworth, we take an important step toward fulfilling our vision and providing the best addiction medicine services possible.”

Also attending were Bruce Hamory, MD, Executive VP and Chief Medical Officer for the System; Frank Trembulak, Executive VP and Chief Operations Officer; Kevin Brennan, Executive VP, Finance and Chief Financial Officer; Robert Davies, Vice President, System Services; Alice McHugh (shown at right with Abigail Geisinger’s shovel) – as the first female

patient at Marworth in 1982, Alice later became a counselor at Marworth and currently serves on Marworth’s Advisory Board; and other members of the Marworth staff.

Completion of construction is anticipated later this year, shortly after Marworth celebrates its 25th anniversary in August.  Click for construction photos by month.
