In order to meet the changing needs of area residents, Geisinger has decided to centralize all of our northeast inpatient and emergency care services at Geisinger Wyoming Valley. Therefore, Geisinger’s South Wilkes-Barre campus is transitioning to a regional same-day facility on Monday, July 13, 2009. Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre will continue to play an important role in the Geisinger Northeast healthcare model as a regional ambulatory campus offering an array of same-day health services.
Urgent care and same day services will be provided including:
- Ambulatory surgery
- Adult urgent care center
- Pediatric urgent care center
- Pain management center
- Sleep medicine center
- Diagnostics including X-ray, ultrasound and lab
- Physician offices

During this transition, we will continue to provide 24/7 emergency care and inpatient acute care beds. As of midnight, Friday, July 10, 2009, the emergency department and inpatient beds will close.
Highly specialized hospital services including trauma and inpatient acute care beds, will continue to be offered at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley campus in Plains Township, just seven miles from Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.

- Cafeteria hours are Monday through Friday, 7 am to 2 pm
- Gift shop hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 am to 8 pm, 10 am to 5pm; and Saturday, 10:30 am to 2:30 pm.
