Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV) is committed to providing quality care and helping you to make good health care decisions. This commitment has resulted in national recognition, including:

2014

  • The International Geriatric Fracture Society (IGFS) certified GWV among the first Geriatric Fracture Care Programs in the United States as recognized by the newly developed IGFS CORE Certification Program.
  • GWV received The Joint Commission Certification for Destination Therapy LVADs; GWV also joined the list of approved LVAD medical centers on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services website.
  • GWV earned a Women's Choice Award for being one of America's Best Breast Centers.
  • GWV received accreditation as an American Heart Association Mission: Lifeline ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) receiving center.

2013

  • GWV was listed as one of the top hospitals for safety according to the Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Score. GWV was one of just three Pennsylvania hospitals on the list of hospital safety standouts.
  • GWV earned the Joint Commission certification as a Primary Stroke Center.
  • GWV received the Silver Medal of Honor from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for offering comprehensive organ transplant services and outstanding care of organ donors.
  • GWV received a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology from the American College of Radiology (ACR).
  • GWV was recognized as part of the Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care® program in the areas of knee and hip replacement and spine surgery by Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania (BCNEPA). The Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care® program is a national designation.
  • GWV's breast cancer program was among the nation's first to receive accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) and is now accredited through January 2015.
  • GWV earned Cycle IV Chest Pain Center Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, becoming one of 800 hospitals nationwide with SCPC accreditation and just one of 26 in Pennsylvania.
  • GWV received the Consumer Choice Award from National Research Corporation

2012

  • GWV was honored with an "A" Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national non-profit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.
  • GWV earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™ Disease-Specific Care for Hip Fracture, Total Hip Replacement and Total Knee Replacement by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety in disease-specific care.
  • GWV and the Richard and Marion Pearsall Heart Hospital were awarded the American Heart Association's (AHA) Mission: Lifeline® Receiving Center - Bronze Level Recognition Award. Mission: Lifeline awards medical centers for excelling within AHA guidelines for treatment of ST elevation myocardial infarctions (STEMI), or heart attacks.

2011

  • GWV named a Top Performing Hospitals by Premier Healthcare Alliance National Quest Collaborative
  • GWV became a Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE)-designated hospital for improving the care of elderly hospitalized adults by increasing awareness of geriatric issues, improving nursing knowledge and skills in geriatric care, and supporting the implementation of hospital geriatric protocols.
  • GWV received the Consumer Choice Award from National Research Corporation
