Emergency Medicine at GWV
The Emergency Department at Geisinger Wyoming Valley recently expanded to larger space in the new Critical Care Building to accommodate growing emergency services needs in the region.
Emergency services include
- Expanded 32-bed emergency services department including: 19 acute care, three trauma bays and 10 Express care beds
- Rooftop helipad with two dedicated elevators — Gives LifeFlight® medical helicopters better access to Geisinger's trauma services when every second counts
- Accredited Chest Pain Center — The ED at GWV is the only one in the area that can receive an EKG transmission from an ambulance on route from the field to the ED
- Trauma Program – provides comprehensive services to care for trauma patients from admission to discharge
- Helipad and LifeFlight® medical helicopter — One of the finest air medical response services in the region.
- Express care unit - Dedicated unit to treat patients with less severe injuries such as cuts and scrapes, colds and flu
- Level II Trauma Accreditation – Geisinger Wyoming Valley was granted Level II trauma accreditation by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation. As of October 1, 2008, GWV becomes the only Level II trauma center in Luzerne County.
