Trauma Program
Geisinger Wyoming Valley (GWV) has been granted Level II Trauma Center accreditation by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation. Effective October 1, 2008, GWV becomes the first and only Level II Trauma Center in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
The Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) is a non-profit organization responsible for setting the standards and accrediting trauma centers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
As an accredited Level II Trauma Center, Geisinger Wyoming Valley has demonstrated ability to provide:
- Comprehensive services to care for trauma patients from admission to discharge
- Advanced resources available to provide efficient surgical intervention and services to reduce the likelihood of death or permanent disability
- Treatment for most serious life threatening and disabling injuries
- 24/7 availability of: operating room and staff; trauma surgeon, anesthesiology, CT scan team, trauma resuscitation area in the Emergency Department, laboratory testing, diagnostic testing, blood bank and pharmacy; neurosurgeons and orthopaedic surgeons On Call, 24/7 within a 30-mile radius of trauma center.
