About Your Billing Statement

You will receive one “combined” billing statement for all of your GHS services. It is called a “combined” statement because it will list all facility (hospital) charges and all professional (Doctor’s) charges on a single statement. It will include charges for any services provided to you at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) in Danville, Geisinger Wyoming Valley (GWV) Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, or any charges for services provided at a Geisinger Clinic.

Your statement will break GHS charges down between facility charges (GMC or GWV) and professional (doctor) charges. Facility charges, such as a room for an inpatient stay, will appear on your billing statement as “new charges for care received at GMC or GWV.” The charges for the doctor(s) that care for you at GMC, GWV, or at any Geisinger clinic will appear on your billing statement as “new charges for care received at Geisinger Clinic.” Again, professional (doctor’s) charges will always appear as “Geisinger Clinic” charges on your billing statement, regardless of where the doctor provided services.

Examples

If you go to GMC for an outpatient surgery, the statement you receive will show GMC’s charges in section titled “new charges for care received at GMC” and the doctor’s charges will appear in section titled “new charges for care received at Geisinger Clinic.”  If you go and see your primary care doctor at your local clinic, the statement you receive from us will only show “new charges for care received at Geisinger Clinic,” because there are no facility charges when you go to a clinic, only professional (doctor) `charges which will appear as “clinic” charges. 

For example, you have an X-ray taken at your clinic and your doctor reads the X-rays at your clinic, the statement you receive will only have “new charges for care received at Geisinger Clinic.” However, if you visited your doctor at your clinic and he/she sent you to GMC or GWV for a MRI, then the statement you would receive would have both “new charges for care received at Geisinger Clinic” and “new charges for care received at GMC or GWV.” The clinic charges would include charges for professional services performed at the clinic and the hospital. The GMC/GWV bill would include charges associated with performing the MRI at GMC or GWV.
