Pre-surgical evaluation and assessment in the Pre-Surgery Center
You can expect to be in the Pre-Surgery Center on the day of your scheduled appointment for a minimum of one hour, with some patients taking almost two hours.
Upon check in, you will be taken to an exam room and any necessary pre-operative testing will be completed. You will then undergo, in most cases, a thorough pre-operative history and physical examination and an assessment for anesthesia. In some cases, patients will meet with an anesthesiologist should the need arise based on the findings of the their history and physical examination or pre-anesthesia testing. You will be provided with instructions and directions for the day of your surgery and you will leave the Pre-Surgery Center after receiving this information.
It is very important that you remember to bring any medications that you are taking or a list of your current medications.
The Pre-Surgery Center is located in Geisinger Medical Center in the Dickey Clinic, First Floor. Patients can enter the hospital via the Main Entrance and bear right past the Gift Shop Entrance, continuing straight through the double doors. After the "D" elevators, make an immediate right and the Pre-Surgery Center is the first door on the right.
