Clinical Trials Clinical Trials Office The Clinical Trials Office of the Geisinger Health System was developed to serve as an interface between pharmaceutical / biotechnical organizations and clinical researchers, also known as principal investigators. The Office will assist in providing services that must be addressed to initiate and complete a clinical trial in a timely and efficient manner. The Office assists in identifying the principal investigator and clinical research coordinators for the appropriate research area, assists in document preparation for Institutional Research Review Board presentation, and assists with contract and budget matters. The Clinical Trials Office will also investigate extramural resources for funding of clinical research. This will include philanthropic organizations, government agencies, pharmaceutical/biotechnical organizations and societies that have interests in clinical care and therapy, health care delivery systems and outcomes. Geisinger Health System has a commitment to support research from its basic science programs at the Weis Center for Research to the clinical research and trials performed in this integrated health care system encompassing both our rural and population dense service areas. There are currently 389 clinical research studies that are ongoing with 226 of these being supported by federal funding, 52 supported by internal research funds, 83 industry supported, and the remaining by miscellaneous support.
