Q. How long is the fellowship? 
A. Two years.

Q. Is there a basic science experience?
A. Approximately 15% of the first year is focused on basic science research at the Weis Research Center under the direction of David Carey PhD. A full-time technician supports the fellow with the research program.

Q. Is there angiography and endovascular experience?
A. Both diagnostic angiography and endovascular interventions, angioplasty, and stent placement are instructed during the 1st year. Vascular surgeons instruct the first year fellow in the techniques of diagnostic angiography, angioplasty, and stent placement. The second year fellow performs advanced endovascular procedures. Endograft repair of aortic aneurysms and carotid stenting is performed in the endovascular suite in the operating room during the first and second year. Vascular Surgery is involved in the CREST trial, performing both carotid stenting and carotid endarterectomy.

Q. Is there a non-invasive vascular laboratory? 
A. The non-invasive vascular laboratory is part of the Section of Vascular Surgery. Over 8,000 studies are performed annually. The 1st year fellow is instructed in non-invasive technology and interpretation. The 1st year vascular fellow does hands-on scanning.

Q. Have any of the fellows had trouble passing the Vascular Surgery Boards? 
A. No, all of the fellows have successfully completed the American Board of Surgery Vascular Surgery Examination.
