| | Research | The Geisinger Health System participates in more than 400 research projects. Many of these are clinically based, and many involve house officers from the Internal Medicine residency. The Center for Health Research is active with increasing involvement from trainees. In addition, our campus houses the Weis Center for Research, which focuses primarily on basic science research in medical genetics and vascular studies. It has distinguished itself in several important areas, receiving millions of dollars of support for its research mission. Our residency supports house staff who are interested in completing a research project. Expenses are paid for house staff who are invited to present their work at a medical conference, and support for visual material productions, secretarial support, and statistical analysis is also provided. Numerous abstracts have been presented at regional and national conferences.
All house staff are expected to participate in a scholarly project. As a minimum, house staff are required to present a detailed presentation to a large audience, based on a particular case chosen by the chief resident.
In addition, house staff may request financial support of a particular research project. Residents who are involved in a promising research project are also permitted to spend a month of their electives each year in order to complete their project. Finally, Geisinger offers an MPH program for selected internal medicine housestaff |
