With more than 600 employed physicians and primary care sites located in over 30 counties, Geisinger is able to provide primary and subspecialty health care to more than two million people residing in central Pennsylvania. The four-year program currently accepts five residents per class and is accredited by both the ACGME and the AOA. At the completion of the four-year training, residents are board eligible in both General Internal Medicine and General Pediatrics. Graduates of our program are provided with the necessary experience to pursue careers in both primary and subspecialty medicine and pediatrics. As a four-year program, the Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency provides a well-balanced, comprehensive learning environment for dedicated individuals. Residents are able to rotate through the medicine and pediatric subspecialties in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Additionally, continuity clinic offers a unique opportunity to provide comprehensive care in a longitudinal fashion to a dedicated panel of patients. Located a short drive from campus, the outlying Geisinger Clinics offer the ability to see both adult and pediatric patients, while being precepted by Med-Peds trained attendings. The state of the art Electronic Medical Record allows for seamless contact with clinic patients while rounding at the hospital. Residents also benefit from the Janet Weis Children's Hospital at Geisinger, the first rural acute care children's hospital in the nation. As a freestanding children's hospital, expert care in all pediatric specialties is provided to children across a large geographical region of Pennsylvania and surrounding states. Graduate Medical Education is an integral part of Geisinger Health System, with over 250 residents and fellows in 28 programs. Teaching opportunities abundantly exist as Geisinger is a clinical campus for 3rd and 4th year students from Temple University School of Medicine and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
