Interview day

Candidates will have a reservation in their name at the Pine Barn Inn, located adjacent to the hospital.  A guest is permitted, and we recommend that you bring your spouse/significant other, as your choice in residency location is an important life decision.  You may check in at anytime after 4:00 p.m.  If you plan to arrive before 6:00 p.m., you and your guest may wish to join with members of the residency staff as well as other applicants for an informal social. A member of the intern class will contact you at the Pine Barn Inn to give you details and arrange for transportation if needed.

The interview day begins at 7:15 a.m. in the lobby on the 1st floor of the Children’s Hospital with an informal session with available attending and members of the housestaff.  A continental breakfast will be served.  At 7:45 a.m. candidates are welcome to join the residency staff for Morning Report.  After this, candidates will meet with the chairman and program director for a formal presentation to discuss the history of the Geisinger Medical Center, the mission of the institution, the goals of our residency training program and specifics about the various resident activities and requirements of the education program. Candidates will then have the opportunity to meet one on one with the program director, several key faculty members, the Chief Resident, as well as senior residents.  Lunch will be served after the individual interviews are completed. During the lunch hour, the residents will be available for candid discussion.  A slide show depicting resident life outside of the hospital and a “closed door” group meeting with the residents should help candidates get a good idea of what life in Danville is all about. The interview day will commence with a tour of the facilities, and lastly, a closing meeting with the Program Director to answer any new questions.

Should you bring a spouse/significant other with you to Danville, we can arrange for a member of the Resident Auxiliary to meet with him/her to show them around Danville and our neighboring communities.  Arrangements should be made ahead of time, so it is important to let our Program Coordinator know you will be bringing someone with you when you schedule your interview day.  A member of the Resident Auxiliary will contact your spouse/significant other by 8:30 a.m. at the Pine Barn Inn on the morning of your interview to go over the arrangements.

Although second visits are not required, we welcome residents back for a second look if they feel it is needed.  We would recommend that if you were unable to bring your spouse/significant other to your initial interview that you seriously consider making a second trip if you are interested. Please contact the Program Coordinator to arrange another visit if you wish.
