Residents will have the opportunity to do rotations on each of the following subspecialties:
Ambulatory Urology Director of Ambulatory Urology is Jennifer Simmons, MD Team members: Joseph Mowad, MD Brant Fulmer, MD Daniel Rukstalis, MD Sophia Drinis, MD While doing this rotation residents will be focusing on BPH, Infertility, Erectile Dysfunction, Hematuria, UTI. The management of the following diseases as chronic conditions as well as initial evaluations and diagnosis will be covered, Bladder Cancer, Kidney Cancer, Testis Cancer. A more focused study of pathophysiology is covered during oncology rotations.
Pediatric Urology Director of Pediatric Urology is Joel Sumfest, MD Team members: Daniel Rukstalis, MD Brant Fulmer, MD Jennifer Simmons, MD Residents will learn to evaluate pediatric patients at the time of the initial presentation and complete a thorough work up. They will assist in the OR and be involved in the management of patients on the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Endourology Director: Brant Fulmer, MD Team Members: Jennifer Simmons, MD Daniel Rukstalis, MD Residents will develop a knowledge base for decision making regarding the identification and initial evaluation of patients with endourologic disease, including urolithiasis, ureteric obstructive disease and upper tract epithelial neoplasms. They will actively assist in the OR and will evaluate patients in the perioperative and postoperative period under the supervision of the attending physcian to identify adverse events as well as master the post operative management of patients with enourologic disease.
Urologic Oncology Director: John Danella, MD Team Members: Daniel Rukstalis, MD Jennifer Simmons, MD Residents will develop an understanding of pathophysiology of urologic cancers, and skill necessary for evaluation and management of patients afflicted by these disorders. They will over the course of their resident years become accomplished at taking appropriate histories from new patients, perform appropriate urologic physical exams, and ordering diagnostic studies. They will develop their skills in the OR and will learn to manage postoperative patients in the hospital, including recognizing complications and learning how to manange these complications.
Female Pelvic Floor Director: Sophia Drinis, MD Team members: Daniel Rukstalis, MD Jennifer Simmons, MD Residents will develop and understanding and be able to describe surgical technigues in the management of female urologic disorders and incontinence. They will perform and interpret videourodynamics. They will become competent in the surgical treatments of interstitial cystitis, female incontinence and pelvic floor prolapse. As in all of the above the resident will learn to recognize and mange post operative complications and develop a care plan for future follow-up.
Minimally Invasive Surgery Director: Brant Fulmer, MD Team members: Daniel Rukstalis, MD John Danella, MD Residents will have the opportunity to assist in laparoscopic procedures and will also have the opportunity to work with the DaVinci robot.
