Geisinger Health System is a fully integrated, physician-led health care system, dedicated to its mission to provide healthcare, education, research and community service. Geisinger includes a large tertiary and quaternary care teaching hospital, a tertiary care hospital, a general acute care hospital (specializing in ambulatory and short-stay procedures), a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility, and an ambulatory surgery center. The system is also home to a large multispecialty group practice with more than 800 physicians and one of the largest rural health financing and insurance companies in the country.
There are nearly three million people in the health system’s 43-county service area, covering Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. Geisinger has 40 community practice sites spread from the west in State College, PA (home of Penn State University) through the Central and South Central Susquehanna regions to the northeast (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, PA) and into the Mount Pocono region.
