Cathy Bastian, MA, RD, LDN, CDE
Director, Clinical Nutrition Services and Dietetic Internship
Cathy is the Clinical Nutrition Director for the staff at Geisinger Medical Center and Geisinger Wyoming Valley. Cathy received her BS in Biology from Bucknell University and her MA in Human Nutrition and route to registration from Syracuse University. She is a Certified Diabetes Educator and has an Adult Weight Management Certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Cathy started her career as a Therapeutic Dietitian at Danville State Hospital. She then worked as a Clinical Dietitian at Geisinger Medical Center for 8 years working in a variety of specialty areas including Nutrition Support and Pediatrics. She developed and coordinated Geisinger's Home Tube Feeding program which is still operational today. Cathy then relocated to New Jersey where she held a variety of clinical positions including: Community Nutrition Coordinator and Community Nutritionist for Hunterdon Medical Center, Pediatric Clinical Nutritionist and Lactation Consultant for Hunterdon Pediatric Associates, and Lactation Instructor for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). While in New Jersey, Cathy had a private practice for 10 years providing Nutrition and Breastfeeding Counseling Services; she was a board certified lactation consultant for 15 years. Shortly after relocating to Pennsylvania, Cathy rejoined the Geisinger team as the Cardiology clinical dietitian; most recently she was the Renal Clinical Dietitian Specialist. Cathy is responsible for administrative operations of Clinical Nutrition Services and the Dietetic Internship for the Geisinger Health System.
Sharon Madalis, MS, RD, LDN, CDE
Coordinator, Dietetic Internship and Coordinator, Clinical Nutrition Services
Sharon received her BS in Medical Dietetics from Penn State University and her MS in Instructional Technology from Bloomsburg University. She completed a 3 Year Approved Professional Practice Program at Geisinger Medical Center as her route to registration. Sharon is a Certified Diabetes Educator and has presented numerous posters at the Society of Nutrition Education and American Dietetic Association annual meetings. She is a Program Reviewer for the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education. She is editor of the Geisinger Health System "Nutrition News and Views" newsletter. Her past job experiences with Geisinger have included Diet Technician and Administrative RD for Patient Food Service. Sharon is the Coordinator for Clinical Nutrition Services, specifically for Ambulatory Nutrition Services and provides patient care and nutrition education classes at Danville clinics and Healthy Beginnings program in the Obstetrics clinic. She is also an Interventionist for the childhood obesity research Healthy Changes Program. Sharon is responsible for coordinating and organizing daily operations of the dietetic internship.
