MBA Consultant Intern: Geisinger Ventures

Position Summary
The Geisinger Ventures MBA Consultant embeds qualified students in a fast-paced, for-profit healthcare environment, with a focus on innovation and translation, growth of high profile ventures, harvest of non-core assets and operations, and development of new ventures for positive return on investment. This position reports to the Director of Geisinger Ventures and will work directly with the Founder & Managing Partner of Geisinger Ventures and support staff. 
Major Duties & Responsibilities
In coordination with the Director, the Consultant will complete the following:
• Business plan formulation and evaluation, including assistance with financial deal terms to evaluate the fiscal and operational viability of business proposals (including ROI, NPV, cash flow, market analysis and penetration, competitive assessment, risk management and mitigation).
• Provide ongoing analytical and technical expertise in the overall new business venture evaluation process from initial opportunity identification to action plan implementation.
• Research key business issues, and directs the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. Synthesizes analyses and identifies key findings.
• Assist with communication with strategic partners and project sponsors, and help formulate specific implementation plans. 
• Perform other duties as mutually agreeable in interest areas of Geisinger and the Consultant. 
Qualifications
The Consultant will have:
• The ability to conduct and interpret quantitative analysis
• Effective interpersonal, presentation and project management skills
• Verbal and written skills for communicating ideas and motivating team members in concise form
• Software skills such as Excel and PowerPoint including but not limited to familiarity with macros, pivot tables, statistical calculations and graphing
• Participated in or be a recent graduate of a qualified MBA program with a focus on finance, operations and/or entrepreneurship
• Minimum four years professional experience in financial analysis, management,  business development or consulting
• Strong experience in strategic planning and analysis required
• Minimum one to two years direct healthcare or related industry experience preferred

Internship for undergraduate students studying business, finance or a related field, supporting projects and operations for Geisinger Financial Management.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Four full-time positions are available supporting Geisinger Financial Managers. All positions are on the Danville GMC campus. The positions will serve the primary areas of Anesthesia/Operating Room, Neuroscience/Heart Institute, Ophthalmology, and Surgery Support. Candidates will be responsible to create and narrate business plans and pro forma statements. The student will prepare budget information and will be responsible for the preparation of the FY11 scorecard. Assisting Finance Managers with analysis for position justification and lease vs. buy. Additionally, the student will assist in auditing gross charges, identifying opportunities with revenue reports, and ensuring compliance. Geisinger’s team environment will provide an opportunity to learn enhanced Microsoft Excel and Access skills, utilize financial systems (ERP), and develop skills necessary for a career in finance and accounting/business. Students will be required to make presentations to the team and to management. Other expectations for the internship include problem solving and applying fixes to processes and providing analysis for ad hoc requests. Exposure to Healthcare Finance and Healthcare Operations will also be provided with attendance to system wide education sessions.
Qualifications
This position requires a detail-oriented individual with multi-tasking abilities who can work independently and as a team member. The intern will assist Treasury Operations staff with the coordination of all system cash management, debt covenant compliance, debt service payments and investment management monitoring; assist in the monitoring of all system cash collection and disbursement activity. Qualifications

Demonstrates the ability to interpret compliance regiments established by corporate policies, state and federal laws and regulations and debt-related covenants. Demonstrates the ability to interpret multiple Financial Accounting Standards Board statements, pronouncements and other Generally Accepted Accounting Principles issues in order to advise management regarding appropriate treatment.
