Summer Work Study Program
A variety of work-study internship opportunities are available at Geisinger Health System's Danville campus as part of the Degenstein Academic Scholars Program. This program provides excellent opportunities for local students with financial need to obtain valuable professional experience by working in Geisinger departments. Funding for the program comes from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) and the Degenstein Foundation.
General Guidelines
To be eligible for a work-study internship through the Summer Work Study program, students must meet the following criteria:
The student's permanent residence must be located in Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder or Union County; AND the student must be approved by PHEAA for work-study
How to Determine PHEAA Work-Study Eligibility
Approval for work-study must come from PHEAA itself. Details about work-study programs and guidelines are available at: PHEAA Work Study.

SWSP Student Application/Placement Form
If you are contacted for an interview, bring a copy of the SWSP Student Application/Placement Form. This form is a required part of the work-study application process. Please visit the PHEAA website for the form.

FOUNDATION DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT INTERN
PAID- Work Study
JOB SUMMARY
The Prospect Research Assistant will help the Prospect Researcher identify new Major Gift ($25,000+) prospects using public records to determine their giving capacity. The student will work with development staff at the Division of Institutional Advancement to secure philanthropic support for Geisinger Health System.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
At Geisinger the intern will develop public records research skills and an understanding of personal economics which are essential in many fields such as law and business.
Develop public records research skills.
Develop understanding of fundraising practices
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Basic Microsoft Word and Excel proficiency. High level of responsibility dealing with confidential information (e.g. giving histories).
Ability to drive to courthouses in North Central PA to do basic public records research.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate would have a business/marketing/poli-sci/pre-law or economic background and an inquisitive mind.

NURSING EDUCATION: CLERICAL INTERN

JOB SUMMARY
Student will experience the Nurse Educator role in the Hospital Environment & recognize the importance of planning, time management, and education of nursing staff.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Needs to complete clerical work such as filing, typing, copying, posting flyers, computer (basic). Assist educators with set up of classroom for trainings.
Describe the role of administrative support for the nursing education department.
Demonstrate basic clerical skills with operation of educational department.

Basic office assistant/clerical skills.

SAFETY AND INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE INTERN
PAID - Work Study
JOB SUMMARY
For a student in an environmental, safety or industrial hygiene major this will enhance the skills of the student to be exposed to and begin to understand real world applications of the safety field. This will enhance the student’s ability to apply real experiences in the job market when applying and interviewing for safety positions.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
♦ Position will be auditing major program elements of the Safety and Industrial Hygiene process across system. Report findings to the Director and possibly assist in corrective actions as needed. Assisting current staff with chemical hygiene monitoring, air monitoring, ergonomic evaluations or safety inspections or other duties as directed by the Department Director.
♦ Position will help develop necessary skills set to become a professional in the Safety and Industrial Hygiene field.
♦ Position will work independently as well as in team environment and will therefore develop needed skills for a typical work environment in the Safety field.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Position requires the ability to read and understand written and verbal directions as well as have excellent writing and communication skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Preferred majors include: Safety Management/Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Engineering
Should have 60 credits completed in Major
