Externship Opportunities

An externship is an experience during which a student works in a Geisinger department or clinic to learn about an occupation. Externs are required by their schools to complete a pre-set curriculum and number of hours. Externships are open to students who have been approved by their schools to complete externship hours, and are enrolled in the program of study/curriculum specified in the externship position listing.

ISS BIOMEDICAL EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN (16769)
Unpaid
Wilkes Barre, PA
JOB SUMMARY
Interns will experience a simulated full-time employment situation in a career as a BMET.
Shadow BMETs on the job. The student performs preventive maintenance, safety analysis, and minor repairs on selected pieces of medical equipment.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Exposure to duties and protocols required of a BMET
Exposure to different areas of the hospital
Exposure to various medical equipment
Learn how to use and service various medical equipment devices
Perform safety checks and PMs on select equipment

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Basic knowledge of electricity and electronics. Course education on basic medical devices and human anatomy.
Ability to work with hand tools and understand electricity and electronics.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Preferred majors: Biomedical Equipment Technology and Electronics Engineering
Semesters 1,2 and 3 of Biomedical EQuipment Technology course

JOB SUMMARY
Students will be able to perform all basic duties of patient access representative position after completing the objectives of the externship
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The extern will:
Become proficient with check in and patient service
Become proficient with check out and patient service

Become proficient with answering phones and customer service
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Excellent communication and customer service skills a must.
Ability to use window's based computer program.
