2014 Nursing Intern & Extern Positions

For students planning to pursue a career in nursing, there are externship and internship positions available. These positions are coordinated by Talent Acquistion. Interested applicants must apply through the Geisinger Careers website, as described below.
Two letters of recommendation and your transcripts are required to be submitted by February 5th. Students can apply to the position before this date. You will receive an e-mail from the Nursing recruiter after applying, who will be the main contact for the above mentioned documents.


NURSE EXTERN DANVILLE AND SHAMOKIN CAMPUS
LOCATION: Geisinger Medical Center Hospital and Shamokin Hospital
WORK SCHEDULE:Rotation, varies
WORK TYPE: Temporary
JOB SUMMARY
The Nurse Extern Program is an educational and clinical work experience for nursing students who have completed their junior level of nursing studies. The extern assists in patient care and reports the physical, psychological, and emotional conditions of the patient. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned nursing unit.
The nurse extern will not perform any procedures that require state licensing (i.e. passing medications, nursing diagnosis, admission assessments, etc).
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximizes patient satisfaction.
Responsible for ensuring the very best patient/family experience by optimizing all customer interaction. Foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation and adheres to GHS and unit specific Service Standards.
Works under the direct supervision of an RN preceptor. Responsible to the Operations Manager
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrates basic computer skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Satisfactory completion of junior level nursing studies required.
GPA of 2.5 or above preferred.
BLS certification required.
Successfully meets program admission criteria required.

SUMMER TEMP NURSE INTERN
LOCATION:Geisinger Medical Center Hospital
WORK SCHEDULE:Rotation, varies
WORK TYPE: Temporary
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible and accountable for performing a wide range of patient care tasks. The performance of tasks allows the care team to provide quality care. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System.
Responsible for ensuring the very best patient/family experience by optimizing all customer interaction. Foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation and adheres to GHS and unit specific Service Standards.
Functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN). Directly reports to the Operations Manager.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrates basic math skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Successful completion of role orientation and competencies required.
Continuing in-services and education programs required.
Completion of High School required. Completion of freshman year in post-education program preferred.
BLS certification required.
