Oncology Nursing

Oncology nurses work with patients in different stages of cancer -from new diagnosis and treatment, to last inpatient stay before recovery.
These nurses balance patient and family needs and offer physical, emotional,
and psychological support to patients and their families throughout the disease process.
The ability for oncology nurses to provide education about the illness and treatment-related symptoms are vital to their success in this profession.
Bush Pavilion 8, Inpatient
- Number of beds: 19
- Nurse to patient ratio: 1:4
- Type of patients: hematology, oncology, bone marrow transplant patients (BMTP,) palliative care
- Clinical make-up: RNs, LPNs, nurses aides, unit desk clerks and combination NA/UDC positions and clinical nurse educator
- Shift availability: 8-hour shifts, 12-hour shift, 8 and 12 hour shifts, Weekend premium
- Programs/councils: Nursing Retention and Communication Council, Clinical Nurse Practice Council, Nursing Service Quality Performance Improvement Council
Radiation Oncology Outpatient Clinic
- Services offered: radiation treatments for malignant and benign tumors
- Clinical make-up: RNs, nurses aides, and a clinical nurse educator
- Shift availability: 8-hour shifts
- Programs/councils: Nursing Retention and Communication Council, Clinical Nurse Practice Council
Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Clinic, Knapper Clinic 2
- Services offered: referrals, outpatient clinic visits, chemotherapy administration, minor procedures
- Clinical make-up: RNs, LPNs, technicians, nurse specialist, and a clinical nurse educator
- Shift availability: 8-hour shifts
- Programs/council: Clinic Level Performance Improvement, Nursing Policy & Procedure Committee, Nursing Service Quality Performance Improvement Council, Practice Council, Clinic Level Nursing Unit Meetings, Nursing Retention and Communication Council
