Cardiac Nursing

Cardiac Nurse with monitor

Nurses work with patients and the families of patients who suffer from heart disease. Cardiac nurses cares for patients with acute and/or chronic health conditions of the heart while staying abreast of other medical condition that impact the heart.

Cardiac care nurses work with patient's in a variety of setting including CICU, inpatient units and clinic settings, assisting with the overall care, education, and well being of the cardiac patient and their family.

Medical Surgical 5 West Telemetry

  • Number of Beds: 31
  • Type of Patients: telemetry, thoracic, and vascular
  • Clinical make-up: team nursing (small nursing pods) made up of RNs, LPN's, nurses aides, and unit desk clerks
  • Shift availability: 8-hour shifts, 12-hour shifts, 8 & 12 hour shifts
  • Programs/Councils unique to unit: Unit Council in conjunction with CEP's are used for decision making.

Cardiac Stepdown Heart Hospital 3

  • Number of Beds: 9 bed inpatient unit, 8-bed outpatient unit
  • Type of Patients: The inpatients are status post 24 hours, post-open heart CABG/Valve repair or replacement. Status post intervention that is STEMI (ST elevation myocardial infarction).  We are currently participating in the CAPTURE Trial, which is doing cartoid stenting. We also care for the CHF patients, chest pain observation, and any patient who requires cardiac monitoring when the telemetry unit is full.
  • Outpatient Services offered: Cardiac Catheterizations, TEEs, Diagnosis valvular disease, sources of embolic stroke and vegetations on heart valves.
  • Clinical make-up: Modified primary care, RNs, LPNs, nurses aides, unit desk clerks
  • Shift availability: 8-hour shifts, 12-hour shifts, 8 & 12 hour shifts
  • Programs/Councils unique to unit: Unit council with CEP input for all decision making
