Medical/Surgical Nursing

Focus on wheelchair, nurse walking patient

Patient care is a true reflection of caring and adaptation – patient education, pain management, interventions to restore or maintain physical health, and recognizing and utilizing tools to help patients and families address psychosocial and spiritual needs.

Medical Surgical nursing cares for patients with acute and/or chronic health conditions of any body system.

Medical Surgical nursing utilizes a holistic approach to meet the needs of the patient as well as the family.

Medical Surgical 3

  • Number of Beds: 26
  • Type of Patients: oncology, bariatric surgery, gynecology, medicine, and surgical. We work closely with the Henry Cancer Center in providing ongoing care of the oncology patient. We provide continuity of care, providing treatments on weekends when required.
  • Clinical make-up: RNs, LPNs, nurses aids, and unit desk clerks
  • Shift availability: 8-hour shifts, 12-hour shifts, 8 & 12 hour shifts
  • Programs/Councils unique to unit: Unit Council

Medical Surgical 4

  • Number of Beds: 9
  • Type of Patients: Medical/Surgical non-cardiac Telemetry
  • Clinical make-up: RNs, LPNs, and unit desk clerks 
  • Shift availability: 8-hour shifts
  • Programs/Councils unique to unit: Unit Council

Medical Surgical 5 West Telemetry

  • Number of Beds: 31
  • Type of Patients: telemetry, thoracic, and vascular
  • Clinical make-up: Team Nursing (small nursing pods) made up of RNs, LPNs, nurses aids, and unit desk clerks: 
  • Shift availability: 8-hour shifts, 12-hour shifts, 8 & 12 hour shifts
  • Programs/Councils unique to unit: Unit Council in conjunction with CEPs are used for decision making.

Medical Surgical 6

  • Number of Beds: 25
  • Type of Patients: medicine, othropedics, and neurology
  • Clinical make-up: RNs, LPNs, nurses aids, and unit desk clerks    
  • Shift availability: 8-hour shifts, and Weekender shift
  • Programs/Councils unique to unit: Unit Council, Total Joint Class for pre-op joint patients, and Unit CEPs for all shifts.
