The Snyder County area is diverse with agriculture, retail and service, and manufacturing sharing the employment base. Major employers in Snyder County include: Wood-Mode Incorporated, Pennsylvania State Government, The JPM Company, Susquehanna University, and Midd West School District.* Snyder County (population 37,720, 331 square miles) is located about an hour North of Harrisburg along the Susquehanna River in the heart of the Susquehanna Valley. From here you can easily reach the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, the Poconos and Lancaster County.
The West branch of the Susquehanna is recognized as a superb bass fishery while smaller streams, like White Deer and Penn's Creek are recognized as excellent trout streams. Boating on the Susquehanna has become popular, and the Fish Commission has developed access ramps at many locations along the river. Dozens of gift and antique shops featuring Amish quilts, specialty gifts and artwork dot the Snyder County countryside.
The Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce has produced a Quality of Life guide for Snyder, Union, Northumberland and Montour counties. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader, and the guide may take awhile to download due to the large amount of pictures. If you would like a hard copy mailed to you, contact the Chamber at 1-800-410-2880.
