Pediatric Cardiology Telemedicine
Geisinger currently has telemedicine programs for echocardiogram, electrocardiogram and Holter monitor interpretations that offer tremendous benefits for pediatric patients and their families.
By using the Pediatric Cardiology Telemedicine programs, children and their pediatricians have near-immediate access to exam interpretations from pediatric heart specialists no matter where their office is located, even if it is hundreds of miles away from a pediatric cardiologist.
This improves the quality of the diagnosis, the timeliness of the diagnosis and the overall ability for a pediatrician to provide high quality care.
The Best Care Possible... As Fast As Possible
Robert Mangano, MD, Director of Pediatric Cardiology, talks about how pediatric cardiology telemedicine works and the difference it makes for children and their families.
Pediatric cardiology telemedicine is especially helpful in diagnosing and caring for:
- Patent foramen ovale
- Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD)
- Cyanotic spells (transient decreases in oxygen)
- Neonatal congenital heart defects
Children and their families often need immediate access to specialized cardiology care, and telemedicine provides that level of immediate care.
In less severe cases, telemedicine makes receiving higher quality care easier for families in Pennsylvania’s outlying rural areas – saving families and health care providers time and money by providing higher quality heart care, closer to home.
Health care providers are invited to learn more about the Pediatric Telemedicine program at the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital by calling 570.271.6637 or emailing telemedicine@geisinger.edu.
