Telepathology

Geisinger’s Telepathology program benefits patient care by connecting physicians to pathology services almost instantaneously, regardless of their location.

Connecting to the telepathology system provides:

  • Coverage for pathology services without having a pathologist on staff
  • Coverage or sub-specialty pathology consultations for sites that have a pathologist on staff
  • Instantaneous review for urgent consultations
  • Pathology consultations during surgery

High Quality, High Tech Pathology

Jeff Pritchard, MD, Director of Telepathology, explains why telepathology has greatly improved the way services are delivered and situations where instantaneous review is especially useful.

Telepathology is useful in assisting in the care of brain tumors, breast tumors, cytology and GI biopsies. In fact, at Geisinger, our telepathology program offers participants access to over a dozen pathology subspecialties.

Medical subspecialties available through Geisinger Telepathology:

  • Breast cancer
  • Cytology
  • Dermatology
  • GI
  • Gynecology
  • Head and neck
  • Hematopathology
  • Liver
  • Orologic
  • Renal and transplant
  • Soft Tissue and Bone Tumor
  • Thoracic

If you are in need of pathology coverage, or if your practice has a pathologist who would benefit from additional coverage or faster consultations, the Geisinger Telepathology specialists are happy to work with you to provide this exciting new service.

Health care providers are invited to learn more about the benefits of participating in a telepathology program by calling 570.271.6637 or emailing telemedicine@geisinger.edu.
