Geisinger Receives Technology Award March 18, HARRISBURG — The Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania has recognized Geisinger Health System for Best Application of Technology in 2004, which recognizes the creative application of existing technology to improve practices, processes or services. At the 12th Annual Technology Awards Gala Geisinger received the Best Application of Technology award for its electronic medical record (EMR) system. EMR allows physicians instant access to the full range of patients' medical information, lets patients view their information and securely communicate with health providers, and provides a portal for referring physicians to track their patients' progress when they are treated at Geisinger. "It's wonderful to have Geisinger named a recipient of this prestigious award," said Frank Richards, Chief Information Officer. "This award recognizes the progress we have made and the efforts of our doctors and staff who made this progress possible. "It validates our belief that technology improves our service to patients and makes our business practices more efficient." Geisinger Health System is an 8,500 employee, 674-bed, physician-led system serving the healthcare needs of approximately 2.3 million people in Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania. Geisinger Health System has received national acclaim with listings in the Best Doctors in America, Best Hospitals in America, Best Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO), and the nation's 100 Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems.
