Aug. 26, 2014 - Geisinger Health System received Premier, Inc.'s Supply Chain Innovation Award for creating new levels of performance to deliver high-quality, cost-effective health care.

Aug. 19, 2014 - A Geisinger researcher on a personal crusade against hepatitis C has been nominated for a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) award recognizing his unprecedented approach to addressing a major public health concern.

Geisinger Medical Center one of 100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs
July 31, 2014 - Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) has been named one of the "100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs" by Becker's Hospital Review. According to Becker's, this year's honorees are "leading the way in terms of quality patient care, cancer outcomes and research."

Geisinger physicians named to Best Doctor's list
July 17, 2014 - Fifty-four Geisinger Health System physicians in 17 medical specialties have been named to the national Best Doctors list for 2013-2014.

GMC earns AANEM Lab Accreditation with exemplary status
July 1, 2014 - Geisinger Medical Center has been awarded Electrodiagnostic Laboratory Accreditation by the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

Geisinger among 63 employers in nation recognized for promoting healthy workplaces, lifestyles
June 25, 2014 - The National Business Group on Health, a non-profit association of large U.S. employers, recognized Geisinger Health System with its 2014 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award for its ongoing commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy workplace and encouraging employees and families to pursue and maintain healthy lifestyles.

Geisinger president and CEO to receive health care leadership excellence award
June 13, 2014 - The National Center for Healthcare Leadership, a not-for-profit that works to improve population health by enhancing the capacity of health care leaders, has named Glenn D. Steele Jr., M.D., Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Geisinger Health System; and Nancy M. Schlichting, chief executive officer of Henry Ford Health System, recipients of its 2014 Gail L. Warden Leadership Excellence Award.

May 23, 2014 - Glenn Steele Jr., M.D., Ph.D., president and chief executive officer, Geisinger Health System, has been named the nation's eighth most influential physician executive and leader by Modern Healthcare. This year marks the fourth consecutive year Dr. Steele has appeared on the list.

May 20, 2014 - In recognition of the month of May as National Stroke Awareness Month, Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center was honored by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for its exceptional care for local residents who have suffered strokes.

April 17, 2014 - Jonathan Reese Slotkin, MD, director of spinal surgery and spinal cord injury research at Geisinger Health System's Neurosciences Institute, has been named to the Becker's Hospital Review's list of "Spine Surgeons Leading Registry Efforts."

Geisinger hospitals two of first in country certified in geriatric fracture care
April 2, 2014 - Geisinger Medical Center and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center are two of the first five hospitals in the country to receive the highest level Platinum CORE Certification from the International Geriatric Fracture Society.

March 3, 2014 - Both Geisinger Medical Center and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center have earned Women's Choice Awards as America's Best Breast Centers. They are two of just 14 Pennsylvania hospitals to earn the distinction.

Jan. 6, 2014 - Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center has been listed as one of the top hospitals for safety according to the Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Score. GWV is one of just three Pennsylvania hospitals on the list of hospital safety standouts.

Dec. 30, 2013 - Geisinger Health System was recently awarded Joint Accreditation for its interprofessional continuing education program, becoming only the 11th institution in the country to receive this recognition.

Dec. 11, 2013 - Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center has earned the Joint Commission's certification as a Primary Stroke Center.

Geisinger Medical Center honored by Highmark Quality Blue for readmission rate reduction
Dec. 11, 2013 - Geisinger Medical Center was honored for outstanding performance in reducing readmission rates with an award by Highmark Quality Blue at its Quality Blue Best Practices Forum last month.

Geisinger Medical Center receives Mission: Lifeline Performance Achievement Award
Nov. 15 - 2013 - Geisinger Medical Center has received the American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline Performance Achievement Award. Geisinger Medical Center is one of 309 hospitals nationwide and 12 in the state to receive this award.

Geisinger receives award from Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to study communication of genomic lab results
Oct. 4, 2012 - Geisinger Health System's Genomic Medicine Institute has been approved to receive a $1.4 million research award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to study how best to share genomic lab results with patients.

Sept. 26, 2013 - Geisinger-Community Medical Center has received the American College of Cardiology Foundation's ACTION Registry-Get With The Guidelines Platinum Performance Achievement Award.

Geisinger Medical Center team wins 2013 Environmental Service Department of the Year Award
Sept. 23, 2013 - Geisinger Medical Center's environmental services team is the winner of the 2013 Environmental Services Department of the Year Award, presented by the Association for the Healthcare Environment of the American Hospital Association.

Justin Drive Office Building earns LEED certification
Sept. 21, 2013 - The Geisinger Health System Justin Drive Office Building, Danville, was awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver certification.

Geisinger Medical Center and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center named Mission: Lifeline Receiving Centers
Sept. 10, 2013 - Geisinger Medical Center and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, have received accreditation as American Heart Association Mission: Lifeline ST-elevation myocardial infarction receiving centers.

Geisinger Medical Center earns EPA's ENERGY STAR certification
Sept. 4, 2013 - Geisinger Medical Center has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR certification for 2013, which represents the EPA's national mark of superior energy performance and identifies the facility as one the most efficient in the nation. Geisinger Medical Center received a perfect score of 100 from the EPA.

Geisinger Wyoming Valley earns Blue Distinction Center Award for knee and hip replacement, spine surgery
July 9, 2013 - Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center has been recognized as part of the Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care program in the areas of Knee and Hip Replacement and Spine Surgery by Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Geisinger Medical Center earns redesignation as a Magnet hospital
July 31, 2013 - The American Nurses Credentialing Center recently announced that Geisinger Medical Center has earned redesignation as a Magnet hospital. Geisinger Medical Center joins an elite group of only 24 Pennsylvania hospitals and 395 hospitals in the United States that have achieved Magnet status (less than 7 percent).

Geisinger named among the national Most Wired providers
July 16, 2013 - Geisinger Health System has been listed for the eleventh consecutive year among the country's "Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems." Overall, this is Geisinger's eleventh selection to the "Most Wired" list, compiled by Hospitals & Health Networks Magazine.

Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center receives transplant award
June 12, 2013 - Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center received the Silver Medal of Honor from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in recognition of outstanding care of organ donors and offering comprehensive transplant services.

May 21, 2013 - Geisinger Medical Center was recently awarded the American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline Receiving Center - Bronze Level Recognition Award given to medical centers for excelling within AHA guidelines for treatment of heart attacks.

May 22, 2013 - Geisinger physicians named to Best Doctor's list
Sixty-three Geisinger Health System physicians in 19 medical specialties have been named to the national Best Doctors list for 2012-2013.

Glenn Steele Jr., M.D., Ph.D., named among 100 Leaders of Great Hospitals in America
May 30, 2013 - Glenn Steele Jr., M.D., Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Geisinger Health System, has been named among Becker's Hospital Review's 100 Leaders of Great Hospitals in America list, which features the top leaders of U.S. hospitals.

Geisinger Medical Center Childbirth Center, NICU earn Lactation Care Award
May 6, 2013 - Geisinger Medical Center earned the Lactation Care Award from the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners for breastfeeding education provided by the lactation team in both The Childbirth Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Geisinger Medical Center is one of just 12 Pennsylvania hospitals to hold this distinction.

Geisinger Medical Center endoscopy earns national recognition
April 24, 2013 - The Geisinger Medical Center endoscopy department recently earned renewed recognition as a unit of quality through the Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Geisinger Medical Center was initially recognized as a unit of quality in 2008.

April 25, 2013 - Geisinger Medical Center was listed as one of the top hospitals for safety in the April/May 2013 issue of AARP The Magazine, based on data from the Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Score.

April 19, 2013 - Geisinger Medical Center was recently named to Becker's Hospital Review's 2013 lists of "100 Great Hospitals" and "100 Hospitals with Great Neurosurgery and Spine Programs."

April 11, 2013 - Geisinger Health System's Genomics Medicine Institute earned grand prize recognition by Bio-IT World in its ninth Best Practices Awards.

March 22, 2013 - Geisinger Medical Center has been designated a Partner in MS Care for neurological care by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center earns accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care
March 14, 2013 - Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center earned Cycle IV Chest Pain Center Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, becoming one of 800 hospitals nationwide with SCPC accreditation and just one of 26 in Pennsylvania.

Geisinger facilities earn ACR accreditation
March 1, 2013 - Geisinger Medical Center and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, have been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology.

Geisinger hospitals honored for organ, tissue donation efforts
Jan. 16, 2013 - Geisinger Medical Center and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center both recently earned the Department of Health and Human Services Medal of Honor for Organ Donation Hospital Award.

Geisinger recognized in international contest to interpret three families' genomes
Jan. 10, 2013 - Geisinger Health System's Genomic Medicine Institute received an honorable mention in an international contest led by Boston Children's Hospital in which 30 teams of professionals from around the world competed to interpret the DNA sequences of three children with rare conditions whose causes were a mystery.
