The Center for Clinical Studies (CCS) of the Geisinger Health System was developed to serve as an interface between pharmaceutical / biotechnical organizations and principal investigators. We provide the infrastructure to support and facilitate Clinical Trials, using superbly-trained personnel, Geisinger’s system-wide electronic health record (EPIC), and research database (Study Manager).
We understand the needs of our patients, our investigators, and our sponsors. We have developed a simple pathway for starting clinical trials. We can quickly perform an electronic feasibility analysis, so that we know the number of potential study participants. We have a contracts/budgeting/IRB process that allows for rapid study start-up. We have a system-vetted electronically and call-center driven enrollment protocols that allow for higher enrollment. We have almost 500,000 unique Geisinger patients in our electronic health record, and a robust coordinator/research assistant infrastructure capable of supporting hundreds of patients per clinical trial (“megatrial”). We understand and are fastidious about excellence in regulatory compliance.
We have a senior administrative commitment to growing our research capabilities, and have now begun clinical trials at our 40 primary care sites. The CCS will strive to bring the most important Clinical Research Trials to the Geisinger Health System.
