The efforts of Geisinger’s community are supported by an administrative infrastructure designed to provide operational, financial, managerial, human resources compliance and training, support to researchers, as well as to comply with the myriad requirements that govern research.

In its mission to “grow, serve, protect and support,” Research Administration provides the administrative, operational, financial, compliance and regulatory infrastructure for Geisinger’s research enterprise as well as for other projects with external funding. The office helps expand and sustain policies systems and processes that are judicious, transparent, and balance compliance requirements with researcher needs. The policies facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and external partnerships and support research programs across all departments, centers, institutes, fields and disciplines within the Geisinger system.

Research Administration facilitates the growth of the research community, provides support to investigators and their staff, interfaces with funding agencies, and ensures compliance with federal and institutional requirements. Some operations are directly overseen by Research Administration while others are managed indirectly by the office’s coordination and oversight.

Research Administration oversees the Office of Sponsored Projects, Research Finance, the Human Research Protections Program, the Institutional Biosafety Committee, and Research Compliance. The office also works in close collaboration with Geisinger’s Legal Counsel, Contracting, Government Relations, Geisinger Ventures, and with administrative and business development units in Geisinger’s research centers and clinical divisions, including the Office of Industry Relations in the Center for Health Research.
