The Sigfried and Janet Weis Center for Research provides a focus for laboratory-based translational research and research training. The Weis Center, which is located on the campus of the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA, and is physically connected to the Hood Center for Health Reseach, contains 65,000 square feet of laboratories, conference rooms, offices, and informal meeting areas.
The primary mission of the Weis Center for Research is to conduct original and innovative research that elucidates the cellular, molecular, and genetic basis of disease, with the ultimate goal of translating this new knowledge into patient care. Ongoing research programs investigate a range of topics in cardiovascular biology, metabolic disease, neuroscience, cancer and other areas.
Geisinger's research programs stress a collaborative multi-disciplinary approach to scientific investigation. We also strive to leverage Geisinger Health System's unique combination of resources, which include the integrated health care system, non-transitory and supportive patient population, advanced electronic health record infrastructures, and large biorepository of patient samples, to drive high impact translational research.
