Bariatric Surgery Support

Deciding to have bariatric surgery is a life-changing event. It’s good to know that you’re not alone. Our ongoing, monthly support groups provide encouragement, information and a forum to discuss the physical and emotional challenges that follow bariatric surgery. This group offers a unique opportunity to interact with others who have had or are considering weight loss surgery. Family members are encouraged to attend, too. No registration is necessary.

  • Support Group Schedule: As part of our program, patients who are preparing for bariatric surgery must attend at least two patient support groups. Continued attendance is encouraged after surgery.
  • Back on Track Program: If you’ve had surgery and started to resume old behaviors, our Back on Track group will help you understand what you can do to continue to reach your goals.
  • Support advice for loved ones: Your family and loved ones will also benefit from our Bariatric Support Network—an entire community of people who’ve helped their loved ones successfully meet the challenges of losing weight to regain health.

At Geisinger, we understand that our patients work very hard to achieve their weight loss goals, and they are to be congratulated on their successes. That’s why we come together with our patients annually to honor their achievements as part of our Bariatric Celebration event. During this event we also provide education, speaker presentations, and exhibits. We look forward to this event all year long as it provides us an opportunity to join our patients in celebrating their journey.
