With more than 2,000 collective years of cancer experience, Geisinger’s team of board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians provide the very best in cancer care. Geisinger’s innovative and compassionate system of care has helped it emerge as a national model for other health care systems. Geisinger is also among 14 new sites chosen by the National Cancer Institute to join a national network of community cancer centers offering expanded research opportunities and state-of-the-art cancer care at hospitals serving largely rural, suburban, small-town, and underserved urban populations.

Dedicated to Personalized Care

Dedicated professionals from a variety of medical and surgical specialties will provide you with a coordinated, innovative, and compassionate approach to cancer care. Oncologists, certified nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, technicians, and therapists, all specially trained in cancer care, work together with you and other Geisinger specialists to design a treatment plan to fit your needs.

Incorporating an ever-evolving new list of discoveries into a treatment plan individualized to your needs requires a team. At Geisinger, you will be seen by one of these teams of specialists – which include oncologists (medical, surgical or radiation), diagnosticians and specialists from other areas (like gastroenterology, neurology, or ENT). Your team can also include other professionals, like:

• Wound care specialists
• Nutritionists
• Physical therapists
• Family counselors
• Palliative care specialists

Cancer nurse navigators will provide ongoing support as you negotiate through your appointments and treatments. Specially trained advisors also are available to help with insurance or financial questions. And a wide variety of support groups can help you and your family members deal with important cancer-related issues.

We will work closely with your primary care physician with an emphasis on “continuum of cancer care.”

Care, close to home

Recognizing that patients with cancer and their families prefer to receive care close to home, the Geisinger Cancer Institute has established care facilities in locations throughout central and northeastern Pennsylvania.

Care, treatment, and consultations are available in the following locations:

• Geisinger Medical Center, Danville
• Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center’s Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center, Wilkes-Barre
• Geisinger Medical Center’s Cancer Center, Hazleton
• Geisinger Medical Group–Scenery Park, State College

Should you require overnight stays, the special cancer units at Geisinger Medical Center and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center are dedicated solely to treating patients with cancer. Additionally, should you and your family need to stay overnight in Danville, you can take advantage of the amenities at the House of Care, a not-for-profit lodging option located on the medical center’s campus.

Consultations and follow-up care also are currently available close to home with locations in Coaldale, Shamokin, Lewisburg, Lewistown, Pottsville, Mount Pocono, Tunkhannock, and Lake Scranton.
