Health Care Quality Unit hosts Nurses Training Day
Geisinger's Health Care Quality Unit (HCQU) sponsored a Semi-annual Fall Nurses Training Day on September 12, 2013 at the Sharon Lutheran Church in Selinsgrove. This training was an interactive day providing a great opportunity for thirty-nine attendees to network while earning free CEU's.
Presenters included Dr. Hasan Askari from Pennsylvania Healthcare Center (Selinsgrove, Pa) and Anita L. Gadberry, Ph.D., MT-BC Director of Music Therapy, Marywood University. Dr. Askari provided an overview including assessment and treatment of both Stroke Prevention and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome. He provided a wealth of information accompanied by an open forum for attendees to ask questions regarding specific individuals they provide care to.
Dr. Gadberry presented on the benefits of music therapy for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She used her acoustic talent to generate audience participation while challenging attendees to incorporate music in their everyday interactions with individuals. Dr. Gadberry stressed how music can reduce agitation, assist in the completion of tasks and provide meaningful moments with others.
