Health Care Quality Unit hosts Nurses Training Day
Geisinger’s Health Care Quality Unit (HCQU) sponsored a Semi-annual Nurses Training Day on May 9th, 2013 at Shiloh United Church of Christ in Danville. Sixty-three attendees earned free ceu’s while learning about the impact of practical implications of genetic diagnoses for people with intellectual disabilities.
Brenda Finucane, MS, CGC, was the guest speaker who recently joined Geisinger as a clinical investigator at the Genomic Medicine Institute. For over two decades she has worked as a certified genetic counselor to create practical services that address the educational, behavioral, and health needs of children and adults with genetic conditions. Brenda has been instrumental in the advances in diagnostic testing and the identification of many distinct genetic syndromes associated with physical, cognitive and behavioral symptoms. Staff working with this special population were excited to hear about the value of diagnostic genetic evaluations, the impact of genetic diagnoses on health, behavior, and medical management and new genetic research.
