2013 Wellness is for Everyone Health Fair
The 10th annual Day of Wellness- Wellness is for Everyone health fair held October 24, 2013 at the Danville State Hospital gymnasium was festively decorated for fall accompanied by the brisk autumn air. This free event was a collaborative effort meant to encourage participants to assume more responsibility for their own health choices in an attempt to maximize health throughout their lifespan.
Each year, the Day of Wellness committee works diligently to promote a fun day of wellness and health awareness for adult individuals with Mental Health and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and their caregivers. The Wellness Committee includes representation from The Central PA Health Care Quality Unit (HCQU), CMSU Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Community Services Group Inc., Suncom Industries, Hope Enterprise, Inc. and Danville State Hospital.
Twenty eight vendors from Columbia, Montour, Snyder, Union and Northumberland Counties interacted with individuals to discuss health promotion, disease prevention and health protection. Nearly 350 attendees explored the health fair activities listening to music while sampling healthy recipes. Local vendors showcased interactive displays while providing an array of activities such as hearing, vision and BMI screenings, fire safety education, paraffin wax hand treatments, chiropractic care and facilitated communication.
The Wellness committee would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the following local community businesses for their donations and continued support: Beiter's, Weis Markets, Giant, SK Auto Appearance, CSG Bakery of Sunbury, Whadda Pizza, Dominoes, Subways located on Bloom Road and McCracken Road, The Pine Barn Inn, Danville Moose Family Center #1133, Custom Car Care Center (Suncom) Bloomsburg, Dreese's Farm Market of Selinsgrove.
