Wellness Health Fair

2012 Wellness is for Everyone Health Fair

The 9th Annual Wellness is for everyone health fair at the Danville State Hospital gymnasium drew an enthusiastic crowd of entertainers, vendors and participants. On October 18th, more than 300 people attended this free event which was open to the public with a focus on adult individuals who receive services for behavioral health and Intellectual and Developmental disabilities.

The wellness committee made up of people representing The Central Pa Health Care Quality Unit, CMSU Services, Community Service Group, Inc., Suncom Industries and Hope Enterprise, Inc. and Danville State Hospital transformed an echoic gymnasium into a family friendly learning center.

Thirty vendors all associated with health and wellness provided information on topics such as the importance of dental care, hand washing, fire safety, the need for regular exercise, sleep and balanced nutrition. Alternative medicine was also featured along with free massages and paraffin hand treatments.

The day encouraged folks to think and move in healthy ways with live music and demonstrations of clogging, Zumba and a new popular fitness craze called Bokwa.

Next year marks our 10th annual event. For more information on the 2013 Wellness is for Everyone health fair, contact Lesley Murphy at lgmurphy@geisinger.edu or 570-271-7240.
