Critical Care

Geisinger Critical Care Services has added eICU® to provide an expanded level of monitoring and a higher quality of care for our most critically ill patients — and a higher level of peace of mind for patients’ loved ones.

Through advanced telemedicine technology, a specially trained eICU team of critical care nurses and physicians monitor patients from a remote location, complementing the dedicated care we deliver at bedside. Nurses are on duty 24/7, while physicians oversee the unit from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

This real-time intensive monitoring enables us to identify subtle changes in a patient’s condition sooner, so complications can be avoided and necessary interventions can take place faster.

Geisinger eICU Program (Critical Care)

Geisinger's eICU Program utilizes critical care-trained and certified physicians and nurses, coupled with innovative technology to enhance the care of our most critically ill patients at Geisinger Medical Center and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

The eICU technology uses voice, video and data to analyze a patient’s condition from information supplied by:

  • Monitors
  • Life support systems
  • Electronic health records
  • Medical orders and other sources of information

Should the data show that a patient is trending toward a serious health event, on-site staff  in the ICU is immediately alerted, enabling the right care to be provided at precisely the right time. As a result, patients recover faster and spend less time in the intensive care unit.

Geisinger is the only hospital in our region to provide this enhanced level of care. It’s one more example of our commitment to using innovative technology that advances the quality and efficiency of care for our patients.
