Geisinger’s Center for Voice and Swallowing is dedicated to conditions arising from disorders of the head and neck, such as difficulties with voice and swallowing after throat cancer treatment. Our goal is to help you restore function and comfort in your ability to use your voice and swallow safely.
Our specialist offers evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of individuals with:
- Speech, voice and swallowing difficulties related to removal of benign tumors of the larynx and cancer-related head and neck surgery
- Laryngectomy rehabilitation (voice box removal)
- Cleft palate
- Professional voice users who have difficulty producing their voice
- Functional voice disorders (nonmedical-related)
The Center for Voice and Swallowing also provides specialized voice services including:
- Stroboscopy — endoscopic evaluation of the larynx using high-speed flashes of light synchronized to the patient’s vocal folds— produces images that show vibrations in the vocal folds of the larynx
- Phonatory, acoustic and aerodynamic assessment
- Voice therapy
Complex swallowing services for head and neck disorders include:
- Videofluoroscopic swallowing evaluation — highlighted digital radiographic imaging analysis of the swallowing mechanism (mouth, neck and upper esophagus)
- Flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing — minimally invasive fiber-optic analysis of the swallowing mechanism
- Transnasal esophagoscopy — ultra-thin endoscopy to diagnose esophageal disorders via the nasal passages
- Swallowing therapy for all types of head- and neck-related disorders
